The questions thing drives me nuts. And it's not just in dating it's in friendship too. It's always my biggest pet peeve when I meet someone new. It used to not bother my husband but now he'll come home from lunch or coffee with a new friend and tell me how they didn't ask him any questions and it really got to him. I do think in general women are more dismissed than men, and I will say the only doctor to ever address my concerns about my migraines in FIFTEEN YEARS was a woman... but I also think people are just rude. Either way, I'm sorry you're dealing with this!
Thanks for your comment, Angela! I agree re it being an issue in friendships, too! It's something up there on my list of friendship priorities and red flags. It's great you've shared this with your husband (albeit to his detriment in enjoying conversations), but I think the more people are aware of this "phenomenon" the more people will learn to ask questions. Wow fifteen years... come on!!! People can for sure be rude, but there are a lot of studies out there to show health bias and lack of understanding and trust in women concerning their health problems. Gotta keep advocating!
GIRLL my sister was just ranting to me this morning about how her doctor didn't take her numerous health concerns seriously enough! Hormonal imbalances, major random allergic reactions on her skin... She was having hip problems and her doc said "you probably pulled a muscle." Yeah fast forward six months she had to get surgery on both hips to fix a bone deformity, one of which happened last week. "Pulled a muscle" my ass. UGH.
Oh no Elaine, I'm so sorry your sister went through all that. Hip surgery!! even though she complained of pain and was dismissed like that... surely, there's grounds for negligence by the doctor that said "you probably pulled a muscle." There's not enough data out there on women because of the lack of testing due to our hormone fluctuations throughout the month, but I was on an interesting call yesterday where we were discussing femtechs and organisations coming together and combining drug databases along with better digital health biomarkers to get accurate insights into our hormones and women's health issues. It's just getting the funding is the next thing. Moves are being made, but slowly! I wish your sister a speedy recovery <3 I hope her care continues to improve now. <3
OOOH it sounds like you’re making big moves with this!! I love that! You rockkk🤩🤩
Didn’t even think of negligence on the doctor’s part.. it’s frustrating that it’s even possible these things can come to that point especially with how much doctors get paid. That being said about your funding, I hope there’s not much pushback from the healthcare field
